Are Doing Mundane Things The Key To Wealth?

Published 5 months ago • 3 min read

Hey Reader,,

Happy Tuesday 👋🏻

Mega musicians play the same song over and over. Multi-billion dollar cruise liners and airlines travel the same plot points (weather permitting). Fast food juggernauts like McDonalds have been serving the same damn burger since 1940.

Yet, here, most of us fall somewhere in middle America.

Why can’t all of us have generational wealth, and why is it so damn hard?

Is it political climate? Is it by a universal design? Is it the influence of shiny object syndrome? Are people just more talented and work harder?

The answer might be so simple, spoken to us through all the great mentors, yet failed to be implemented.

I’ve spent a lot of time this past year reviewing my life, business, and ambitions. This led me to explore a lot of successful people. The common thread?

Consistency.

Now I’ll be the first one to tell you; I have had times in my life where I have been piss poor at consistency— like not getting out of bed until 10 am on a Tuesday and wasting it at the hands of cheap dopamine hits via social doom scrolling and endless YouTube videos.

This has since changed as I’ve gotten older, but of course, there are still days when the spark just isn’t there. And that’s okay.

Why do we, as humans, struggle to stay consistent, and is there a hack to it?

We first must understand why. In my opinion, it comes down to our inner dialogue of:

  • Doing the same thing repeatedly gets boring (or I haven’t seen results fast enough).
  • I don’t have the time or resources.
  • Imposter syndrome.
  • Or the best one… I’ll do it tomorrow (which steam roles into waking up a month later and realizing it never got done.)

The second part of this narrative is that there is no hack.

We, as humans, will always struggle with the voice in the back of our minds—the voice of self-doubt, fear, and trepidation. The key to alleviating this is to acknowledge, compartmentalize, and move through it the best we can.

After studying and listening to podcasts, audiobooks, and social media mentors on growth, business, marketing, etc., I’ve discovered a few nuggets of wisdom to help you stay consistent and achieve a life you love to live. Check them out below.

James Clear- 1% better.

If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better when you’re done.

Jocko Willink and Leif Babin- Extreme Ownership

“Discipline equals freedom.”

Dan Koe- Life comes at you in waves

Understand that life comes to you in ebbs & flows. Understanding this helps keep the mind at an even keel.

What mundane things can we do to grow our wealth over time?

As we wrap out this week's thought process, I’ll leave you with some things I do that may seem mundane but have 10x’d my wealth over the past year. As we head into the new year, I challenge you to create your own and see what you look like 1,5 and 10 years later. I will be.

Non-Monetary Wealth

  • Bought a stranger's coffee in the Starbucks line once a week.
  • Asked a loved one if they knew how special they were today. For example, I ask my wife, “Has anyone told you you’re a great mom today?” She replies, “No”. I then say, “You’re a great mom today.”
  • Go for a morning walk without a podcast or headphones and enthrall yourself in the sounds. (It’s a great reminder just to... observe)

Monetary Wealth

  • Invest in a retirement account.
  • Pick 2 days a week to connect with new people over a Zoom call to exchange ideas and what you’re building/ working on. (This will set up a compounding effect on your network.)
  • Create thought leadership content and grow a personal brand.

Cheers to the holidays and a prosperous 2024!

Hey Reader, Happy Monday 👋🏻 Writing this newsletter has brought a lot of clarity to how I approach perception, presentation, and positioning. It turns out that positioning, perception, and presentation mean a lot more than I ever thought. For example: Positioning = Opens the door to being the right fit for someone's needs. Perception = Gets people in the door by aligning with their needs. Presentation = Slams the door shut behind that person and helps them move forward with you. Sounds...

Hey Reader, Happy Monday 👋🏻 I've had quite a few chats with business professionals, and I like to think I'm pretty plugged into the marketing/ content world. One thing that keeps popping up in these conversations is the thought of building personal brands. You know, build an audience of hundreds of thousands, start a membership program, post a sh*t load of content, and then sail off into the Maldives only to work 2 hours a day atop of your empire. At least, that's how these mega-creators make...
